Modak Recipe - Tilgud - Modak for Ganesh Chaturthi
INGREDIENTS:
FOR MODAK OUTER COVER:
1/2 cup Wheat Flour
1/2 cup All Purpose Flour/Maida
1 tbsp Semolina/Rava
2 tbsp Melted Ghee/Sajuk Tup
Salt To Taste
Water As Required
FOR MODAK STUFFING:
1/2 cup Desiccated Coconut
1/3 cup Sesame Seeds
1/2 cup Grated Jaggery/Gud OR SUGAR
1/4 cup chopped Dry Fruits(Cashew Nuts,Almonds)
1/2 tsp Cardamom Powder/Elaichi Powder
A Pinch Of Nutmeg Powder/Jaifal Powder
Oil For Frying Modak OR GHEE
METHOD:
FOR OUTER COVERING:
1.Take wheat flour and maida in a bowl. Add semolina,salt to taste and ghee in a bowl
2.Mix it well and start to make dough using water. Knead it well to make smooth and soft dough
3.Cover it and keep it aside for 10-15 minutes
FOR STUFFING:
1.Turn on flame and Roast sesame seeds in a pan for 4-5 minutes on low flame and take out roasted sesame seeds in a bowl
3.Roast Desiccated coconut in the same pan for 2-3 minutes on low flame and remove it in the same bowl
4.Add jaggery in a pan and stirr it till it melt down on low flame
5.Add roasted sesame seeds and desiccated coconut in a pan. Add chopped dry fruits,cardamom powder and nutmeg powder in it
6.Mix it well and turn off flame. Remove stuffing mixture in a bowl and let the stuffing cool
MAKING MODAK:
1.After 10-15 minutes,knead the dough well once again
2.Heat the oil in a kadai on low flame for frying Modak
3.Divide the dough into 10-12 equal portions
4.Take one ball and roll it into a circle(puri)on rolling board using rolling spin.Make rest of puris like this
5.Take one puri on the board and put 1 tbsp stuffing in the center. Pinch the edges one by one and bring together all in the center
6.Remove out extra dough and seal it then place in a plate.Do the same method for all the Modak
7.Once oil medium heated,Fry Modak in the oil on low flame till it becomes golden brown and crispy from all the sides
8.Keep stirring,then remove Modaks into a plate
9.Fry all rest of the Modaks like this. Remove it in the same plate and let it cool down
10.SERVE TIL MODAK in a plate
MODAK is served to LORD GANESHA During GANESH CHATURTHI DAY
